Soheil Danesh Phd

Soheil Danesh, PhD

Soheil is a computational scientist with a diverse background spanning different domains including Natural Language Processing, Computational Biology and Econometrics. The common skillset he brings to these domains is the ability to translate the underlying domain-specific problem to a mathematical framework which can then be solved using the tools of machine learning and statistics. He also has the hands-on capabilities to prototype ideas into production-ready software systems and has experience in building and leading teams of data scientists.

He earned his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Boulder Colorado where he published influencial works in NLP, pushing the state of the art in automatic terminology extraction. His interest then shifted to the application of computation to biology and specifically age-related disease. Motivated by this he moved to San Diego to work as a data scientist at Illumina and several drug discovery start ups. He also has experience in econometrics, working as an applied scientist at Amazon on causal attribution and forececasting.

Through his diverse experiences and learning he has come to form a unique perspective on the problem of age-related disease and the potential of data science to address it. He is now excited to be working on RootCauseBio to bring this vision to reality.

Vala Hamidi, MD

Dr. Hamidi

Dr. Hamidi brings a wealth of expertise to RootCauseBio. Currently an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, specializing in Endocrinology at the University of San Diego, California, her career has been dedicated to unraveling the complexities of diabetes and insulin resistance, particularly within the context of aging and obesity.

While her clinical work addresses the immediate health concerns of patients with age-related disease, her research seeks to maximize impact by delving into the underlying mechanisms of insulin resistance and age-related transformations in the lipidome.

As a physician scientist, Dr. Hamidi is both a user and designer of our discovery platroform. She makes sure our findings are valid and supported by medical literautre and connects the dots between scientific discovery and real-world medical applications.
